Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook a wide variety of authentic vegetarian Indian dishes, following traditional and modern recipes.
- Plan and design daily menus to ensure a diverse and appealing selection for guests.
- Ensure all dishes are presented with high standards of taste, quality, and appearance.
- Oversee food preparation and coordinate kitchen operations during busy meal periods.
- Maintain strict food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards in compliance with Australian regulations.
- Train, mentor, and supervise junior kitchen staff to foster a collaborative team environment.
- Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed to avoid shortages or wastage.
- Adapt recipes and menus to accommodate special dietary requirements and customer feedback.
- Ensure consistent portion control and minimise food wastage.
- Collaborate with management to develop new dishes and seasonal specials.
- Prepare food for catering orders and special functions as required.
- Monitor equipment and report maintenance needs to ensure a safe kitchen environment.
- Maintain accurate records of food costs and kitchen expenses.
- Uphold the restaurant’s reputation for excellence through a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
- Participate in regular team meetings to discuss menu updates, service standards, and process improvements.

Qualifications

- Minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification (as per ANZSCO guidelines).
- Proven experience as a Chef, ideally with a background in Indian or vegetarian cuisine.
- Solid understanding of food safety and hygiene standards in Australia.
- Ability to create, prepare, and present a diverse vegetarian menu with authentic Indian flavours.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, able to work efficiently during busy periods.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive team spirit.
- Willingness to contribute to a welcoming and memorable dining experience for all guests.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Full working rights in Australia (citizenship, PR, or relevant visa).
