Responsibilities
- Perform routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of light vehicles to manufacturer standards.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using modern diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Inspect engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension systems for wear and damage.
- Replace or repair faulty parts such as spark plugs, belts, hoses, and filters.
- Conduct road tests to ensure vehicle safety and performance post-repair.
- Communicate clearly with customers about required repairs and service options.
- Accurately complete job cards, service records, and reports for each vehicle.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment at all times.
- Stay up to date with the latest automotive technologies and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with fellow mechanics and apprentices, sharing knowledge and expertise.
- Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Order and manage automotive parts and workshop supplies as needed.
- Assist with vehicle inspections and roadworthy certificates when required.
- Provide technical advice to customers and team members when needed.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, reflecting the values and reputation of SM Automotive.

Qualifications
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent recognised Australian qualification
- Proven experience as a motor mechanic, ideally in a busy workshop environment
- Sound knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and follow manufacturer guidelines
- Valid Australian driver’s licence (manual preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a positive, can-do attitude
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive team
- Full Australian working rights or eligibility for employer-sponsored visa (if required)
